Got a darn sweet dress on the weekend. By Sass, I feel like a ballerina all over again. It’s got a smoky blue crushed velvet bodice with a dark smoky blue fine tulle skirt. Heck yeah. Plus it was 10% off. Too scared to wear it out as a normal dress though because it will look like shit if the tulle is torn. Note to self: shop at Parliament Clothing more often. Picked up some wicked Jonathan Aston tights also, cleaned out David Jones stock. Geometric Electric Blue, AU$16.00 each! Must seek out an invitation to a dress up party soon so I can show off as a fairy of some kind…or go to normal party dressed as such.

My little birdies are Pudge and Chicken, they like to beep and have baths. Tomas told me that they like to hide behind the heater when I’m not home. I can’t bring myself to keep them in a cage because they are just too delightful are beautiful. Chicken shoves Pudge out of the way when he wants food, and Pudge tells us things by flying over to my half of the bedroom and beeping a lot; I call it beeping because when they make their little birdie noises, it sounds like they’re saying beep-beep. My little brother named Pudge, but I named Chicken because he wanted to call him Squidge, but Squidge didn’t really suit Chicken very much at all.

Well holy crap, for my Year 12 Graduation this year I got a freaking AWESOME present from my Media teacher. I was on the phone to my mother to make sure she wasn’t going to miss me gradutatingwhen a thing slipped into my hand. Next thing I new the person who had delivered it was dissapearing into a crowd. It was Like I Give A Frock by Michi. I later found the lovely lady that gave me the book and she said she had to buy it because it reminded her of me so much. In the front of the book she wrote: never lose your style, love Amber. I just have to tell everyone about this because of how wonderful it is! Thankyou so much Amber!

I saw American History X the other night…and I just felt like I should really write something on here about it. The film is about a neo nazi Derek (played by Edward Norton), the storyline revolves around the night he shot dead two coloured teenagers and the events that took him to that point aswell as the consequences after the event.

“His father taught him to hate. His friends taught him rage. His enemies gave him hope.”

While Derek is serving jail time for the murders, his younger brother Danny (played by Edward Furlong) is walking in his footsteps. This is definitely a movie to watch. It made me think so much about how we are shaped by those who raise us, and how much it takes to really break that shape, or lack of shape. Heck I can’t really word what exactly this film taught me, but it was something big. Oh, I also really enjoyed how the film was narrated through an essay.

Oh my gosh, can’t believe I forgot to mention this book series before. Shit, what a great...

Oh my gosh, can’t believe I forgot to mention this book series before. Shit, what a great read. Alright, it’s about this tiny little town in America. A girl and her family move there, she starts having really really weird dreams…then a giant panther shows up and tried to eat her (in her dreams that is - of course). Somehow Gangsters, Halloween/Samhain, flying, lightning storms, frozen people and numbers come into it. The books series is called The Midnighters and is by Scott Westerfeld. If you’re not into reading then look out, the rights for the series has been bought by Warner Bros so there could be a show or a movie in a couple of years.

Okay, so in Graphic Design we have this brief on making a new album cover for The Joy Division, yes they are no longer, but this is just an assignment. We got to watch Control, to give us an idea of what they’re all like. The movie revolves around Ian Curtis and his spiral into sickness and eventually suicide, but of course the film showed a lot abou the band as well. Anyway, all we really have to do is make sure we use retro designs and mix them with modern/post modern. We have to hand in a finished album cover, so I’m going to do a soft cardboard cover so I can use lovely orgasmic-to-touch-paper.

I met these fellows again when I went to Melbourne for a few...

I watched The Boy In The Striped Pajamas Today, and yes this has some king of relevance to design and culture. I really enjoyed it, no matter how shocking it was. It showed the Holocaust from the perspective of an eight year old boy who’s father was in control of a concentration camp. There’s not really any physical violence, but gosh you know damn well what’s happening. I really appreciated the way they replicated the clothing, hairstyles and architecture, I quite admire the styles that were circulating in the 1940’s. None of those neon colours, I suppose the graphic design of the 40’s interests me too, with the Propaganda for World War ll…some of the things that they used as propaganda was just…I don’t know how people were conned into believing the things that they said. I found an interesting piece of propaganda while writing up this blog entry, according to the source, the german governemnt was trying to represent America as evil. “De USA zullen de Europeesche Kultuur van den ondergang redden” (which is written on the poster) roughly translates into “The USA will save European culture from decline”, which is basically an insult. The poster was publised in a Dutch magazine in 1944. In the poster there are several different American motifs such as the American flag, the Ku Klux Klan hood, it suggests the immorality of beauty pageants aswell as ‘gangsterism’ and gun violence.

I think this may just be the best glass I will ever...
