Miss Feona

I like making big ruffly bags, buying swanky pieces of clothing. I really enjoy curling up with a rad book. Ink, goauche or oil are my favourites to use when it comes to making artworks.

Hating New Zealanders

This morning I logged on to Facebook to see that my friends were attending a group that was essentially about gathering together people to invade New Zealand, this was of course a joke. I know the Gruen Transfer did this a couple of years ago, it was funny, but it’s old now. It was disappointing to know that my friends found it funny enough to join. It would be like me joining a joke group that made derogatory remarks about homosexuals…it’s nasty and even though it’s a joke, it upsets anyone who is gay or knows someone who is. Does that make sense?

I find it more than a little pathetic and tiring all of the snide comments that are made about the country I grew up in and the people who live there. In the right context it can be mildly amusing, but darn it’s so boring. It’d be called racism if it were directed at any other country, so I suppose that’s what bothers me so much…oh and the fact that people think it’s acceptable to voice such opinions loudly amongst friends and strangers.I know there will be people who object and try and justify themselves, which is dissapointing in it’s own way because they think that it’s okay to hate people because of where they’re from. This whole thing brought me down a lot more than I thought it would and I just need to say something, so at least even one person can think about it, even if they don’t discriminate people because of the country that they live in.
