Hating New Zealanders
This morning I logged on to Facebook to see that my friends were attending a group that was essentially about gathering together people to invade New Zealand, this was of course a joke. I know the Gruen Transfer did this a couple of years ago, it was funny, but it’s old now. It was disappointing to know that my friends found it funny enough to join. It would be like me joining a joke group...

Got a darn sweet dress on the weekend. By Sass, I feel like a ballerina all over again. It’s got a smoky blue crushed velvet bodice with a dark smoky blue fine tulle skirt. Heck yeah. Plus it was 10% off.  Too scared to wear it out as a normal dress though because it will look like shit if the tulle is torn. Note to self: shop at Parliament Clothing more often. Picked up some...

My little birdies are Pudge and Chicken, they like to beep and have baths. Tomas told me that they like to hide behind the heater when I’m not home. I can’t bring myself to keep them in a cage because they are just too delightful are beautiful. Chicken shoves Pudge out of the way when he wants food, and Pudge tells us things by flying over to my half of the bedroom and beeping a lot; I...

Well holy crap, for my Year 12 Graduation this year I got a freaking AWESOME present from my Media teacher.  I was on the phone to my mother to make sure she wasn’t going to miss me gradutatingwhen a thing slipped into my hand. Next thing I new the person who had delivered it was dissapearing into a crowd. It was Like I Give A Frock by Michi. I later found the lovely lady that gave me the...

I saw American History X the other night…and I just felt like I should really write something on here about it. The film is about a neo nazi Derek (played by Edward Norton), the storyline revolves around the night he shot dead two coloured teenagers and the events that took him to that point aswell as the consequences after the event. “His father taught him to hate. His friends taught...

Oh my gosh, can’t believe I forgot to mention this book series before. Shit, what a great read. Alright, it’s about this tiny little town in America. A girl and her family move there, she starts having really really weird dreams…then a giant panther shows up and tried to eat her (in her dreams that is - of course). Somehow Gangsters, Halloween/Samhain, flying, lightning storms,...

Okay, so in Graphic Design we have this brief on making a new album cover for The Joy Division, yes they are no longer, but this is just an assignment. We got to watch Control, to give us an idea of what they’re all like. The movie revolves around Ian Curtis and his spiral into sickness and eventually suicide, but of course the film showed a lot abou the band as well. Anyway, all we really...

I watched The Boy In The Striped Pajamas Today, and yes this has some king of relevance to design and culture. I really enjoyed it, no matter how shocking it was. It showed the Holocaust from the perspective of an eight year old boy who’s father was in control of a concentration camp. There’s not really any physical violence, but gosh you know damn well what’s happening. I...

Japanese food packaging, is hilarious. It’s so freaking hilarious. So I did a satirical set of drawings to mock them. You know how sometimes you walk past an asle that has a can of octopus or something odd like that, and on the can there is a smiling octopus? So as you can see in my bacground, I have made boy in a can, dog in a can, wally in a can and hitler in a can. There will be more,...

This is frog tree, or maybe he is a toad. Either way, I think he is freaking hilarious. I originally started drawing a silly bat, he was going to hang from a tree but then the tree turned out to be a grumpy old toad. For this picture I used pencil initially, then ink, and afterward un-watered down goache for the background. It would perhaps have been a better illustration had I used a cartridge...

I came across this book on the shelves in Big W of all places, I’d heard about CouchSurfing.com before, so I jumped at the chance to find out about someone’s experiences with it. Brian Thacker is his name, he’s written a couple of different books, none of which I’ve heard. This book really has inspired me, made me want to experience different countries through couch...

The Red Paintings
Yeah it’s another post about the Red Paintings, but this time it’s more about their creative shows. I have unfortunately never gotten to see one of their shows, but apparently they have a lot of blank canvases at each show, for people to paint and draw on while they’re listening to the music. I think that’s a fantastic idea. I can’t seem to be able to upload a photo...

Sebastian Mohair Shampoo
I came across this lovely shampoo while product hunting around the Hyperdome, I was first drawn in by the packaging. I love packaging. The bottle looks so sleek and I loved the description on the back of the bottle, the claim that there is mohair in the product also intrigued me. “Makes your hair feel fuller, like a big fluffy sweater. Gives it more volume and warm, woodsy musky scent....

This really reminded me of an ink drawing I did a few years ago, they look completely different but the subject matter is exactly the same. Thought I might just pop this in because I really like it. Not sure I like the silhouette of the hand so much though. No idea who did this artwork, I couldn’t find a proper source seeing it was off google when I was trying to find interesting band...

The colour scheme of Amelie inspires me, I’m yet to try and follow it, but I just love the use of reds and greens. A lot of things about this movie inspire me, the soundtrack makes me skip and grin. I’ll tell you when I do something related to this movie, perhaps fan art but we’ll see. I feel like watching it right now.

Had nothing to do one lesson so I just thought I’d play around and do a little photo manipulation. Acquired the creepy brick background from Xenia on deviantart with her permission and then I used something I’d done a few years ago and just made it look sort of like it was graffitied on there. I know it doesn’t look fantastic but I did alright with some thing seeing that I...

Joe Vaux’s website is a piece of creepy art, I particularly love the navigation bar, so I think you should go check it out www.joevaux.com. The background music is lovely and strange too.

Water Dancing
Well this is a piece I did a while ago but have only finished recently. I first started off with a textured prime. Then I drew the long long legs, I then decided upon all the colours. Worked in some gel medium and impasto. Put in base colours with acrylic, began feathering on more colour in acrylic. Eventually when all that was done I decided it needed stronger colour so I put some oil paint into...

Graffiti
The streets of melbourne is a place I feel quite at home, even though I’ve only been there three times. Why do I feel at home? Because the streets are infested with fantastic art works. One of the many semi-hidden glories of the busy city streets is a lengthy alley way that smells of urine, alchohol and stale cigarettes. But that luckily isn’t the glory of it. Looking at the walls, you...

Vulture
One of my favourite bands Drop Dead, Gorgeous recently released a new album. Though they did it in quite a different way to the average musician. Basing their new concept album called Worse Than A Fairy Tale on the fictional murders in a town called Saylor Lake. I’ll tell you a bit about their campaign to add interest to their new release then shall I? Along with their regular band site,...

Tomer Hanuka
His works are somewhat disturbing in many cases, as the average person will say ‘eww’ when their eyes come to look at the image, Tomer generally uses good old ink…and photoshop to create each piece. He has done work for Time Magazine, The New Yorker, The New York Times, Rolling Stone, MTV, Saatchi & Saatchi, BBDo, Nike, GQ, Esquire, Spin, Maxim, Warner Bros, DC comics, Marvel...

Disorder Magazine
Yes, another UK based thing, though this time it’s an awesome magazine. Really hard to get over here but oh well it’s worth it. One of my favourite magazines. The pages are filled with wonderful graphics and make your eyes and mouth water. The magazine features new and upcoming designers, artists, musicians and some quirky stories. With a large variety of topics and areas covered in...

Lazy Oaf
Lazy Oaf is a fairly new site based in the UK, it sells clothes, accessories and used, the smooth almost childish colourful font pairs well with the vast amount of images that make up the site. The site doesn’t appear at all cluttered, as every image is bright, tidy and interesting. With the background white, it’s a very easily navigated fun site to go on. I find myself looking on it...
